HMS Illustrious是第四艘以“光辉”为名的英国皇家海军军舰，二战中光辉级航空母舰的一号舰。

建造

它由巴罗市的维克斯-阿姆斯特朗船厂建造， 1939年下水，1940年4月16日开始服役，排水量28,000吨，载机57架，其中有33-36架收在装甲机库中。[1]她比之前的皇家方舟号和之后的不屈级、怨仇级载机要少，这是因为其重甲保护的机库比皇家方舟号小。但是在改装中去掉了飞行甲板下翘尾并采用永久甲板驻留方式装载飞机后，载机量大大上升。[2] 她因为1940年5月24日海试时达到了113,700马力234.2转速而被船员们爱称“健壮号”，准确的速度由于去掉了定深拖筏而未能记录，但估计有31节。[3]
