攻擊戰鬥機

依照目前军事的分類， 攻擊戰鬥机是一種多用途的作战飞机，主要是做為攻击机，但同时还结合戰鬥機空對空作戰的特性。 這種類型的飛機類似於戰鬥轟炸機，但是更著重於空對空作战能力。当代美国的攻击战斗机，如F-15E、F/A-18E/F超级大黄蜂、F-35闪电II等。

历史
煽動者TF Mk.IV

出現於西元1940年代的海軍中，"攻击战斗机"在海军中被定義為能夠執行空袭的戰鬥機，例如英國的西陸飛龍攻擊戰鬥機、[1] 布雷克本煽動者攻擊戰鬥機[2] 和焰頂。

"輕量战术攻击战斗机(LWTSF)"是用来指稱符合建立於西元1953年12月北約基礎軍備1號（NBMR-1）規格的軍事飛機。[3] 曾據此規格提交競標的有義大利Aerfer射手II型、法國Breguet Br.1001 Taon、Dassault Étendard VI、G.91戰鬥機和Sud-Est Baroudeur。

"攻擊戰鬥機"在西元1970年代末漸漸被美国海军[4] 所使用，甚至成为[5]F/A-18的正式名稱。西元1983年，美国海军甚至將所有現有的戰鬥機攻擊中隊更名為攻擊戰鬥機中隊[6]，用以強調其為空对地特殊作戰部隊。

这個名稱很快的被其他非海上單位使用。当F-15E投入服役時，它最初被称为"双功能战斗机"，[7] 但之後就迅速地被改称为戰鬥機。

联合攻击战斗机

在西元1995年，美国联合先進打擊技术方案改名被改为联合攻击战斗机計畫。[8] 這個計畫，导致F-35闪电II系列的隱形第五代多用途战机可以做為攻击機、侦察機和執行防空任務。
