背景

2019年8月30日，拉娜·德芮的第六張錄音室專輯《諾曼去你的洛克威爾》發行當天，她宣佈自己已經開始著手下一張專輯，[7]並透露專輯標題為《White Hot Forever》。[8]

2020年5月25日，她發布了一連串影片，宣布專輯的新標題為《Chemtrails over the Country Club》。[9]

2020年9月1日，德芮在Instagram上發布了一部影片，內容是她在佈景拍攝專輯同名歌曲的視覺內容，並透露了另一首歌〈Let Me Love You like a Woman〉，後於2020年10月16日發行。另外她也稱專輯「很快」就將發行。[10]

2020年10月3日，據透露，由於黑膠製作問題及不確定是否要收錄歌曲《Dealer》，《Chemtrails over the Country Club》將延遲發行。[6][11][12]歌曲最終並未收錄於專輯中。[13]

單曲〈Let Me Love You like a Woman〉發行近兩月後，德芮在《吉米·法伦今夜秀》上用預錄影片表演了單曲，這是她九年來的第一次電視演出。[14]幾天後，她在Ally Coalition年度Twitch talent show上表演了《平安夜》和〈Let Me Love You like a Woman〉。

專輯第8首歌曲《Yosemite》原定包含於德芮第5張錄音室專輯《渴望生活》，但在2017年與贊恩·洛的一次採訪中，德芮說因為歌曲「過於快樂；還不到時候（）」所以被移除了。[15]

發行和宣傳

2020年12月22日，德芮發布了專輯同名歌曲的預告影片，並在影片最後透露歌曲將於2021年1月11日發行且專輯將開放預訂。[16]

2021年1月10日，專輯同名歌曲發行前，德芮發布了專輯的封面和曲目列表。[13] 她還發表了一則Instagram留言，詳盡解釋了封面並提前回應了可能出現的對封面上人物的種族多樣性的批評。[17]1月11日，Target和HMV揭露了獨佔版本唱片，其封面由Neil Krug拍攝。[18]
